Caribbean Christmas CD
Caribbean Christmas is my first instrumental album.
The songs are selected favorites from memories of family Christmases spent with
old and young alike sharing the special warmth of family love.
I had more fun making this album than any other I have been involved with.
The entire album has a Caribbean flavor, complete with the sounds of
steel drums, marimbas, and my guitar. 100% Dan

Ever since I stepped off a ship and was greeted by the happy
sounds of steel "pans" as they are properly called, I have wanted
to make an album of music utilizing steel drums. Their bell-like
timbre seemed to lend itself ideally to Christmas music. An
island original, the "pans" are formed from the ends of steel oil
drums which are carefully scored and hammered into sections that
produce all the various notes of the scale needed to make music.
Interwoven with the steel "pans" is the sound of the Marimba.
The marimba is more or less a wooden xylophone and produces a
sound like a cross between "pans" and vibes. Rounding out the
lineup is yours truly on guitar and some old island pals on the
rest of the instruments.
My thanks to the Royal Steel Drum Band for their part in this
recording.
Finally, a big thanks to "Sticky" Watler of the Bodden Town
Marimba Band; though severely injured by a flying drumstick he's
been an inspiration to us all.
Have a Very Merry Caribbean Christmas!
