"Alabama Summer Nights" is in many ways my favorite. It takes me back to a simpler time when summer became a magical retreat to small town life in Alabama. Kids ran barefoot, slept under handmade heirloom quilts, woke to the smell of woodsmoke in the pot-belly stove and listened to the crackle of bacon frying and relished the hot meal of eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy while the adults poured endless cups of coffee and we made our plans for the day... fishing on the Coosa river and a fish fry after a long day in the boat. Often we came back empty-handed to find that our angelic Aunt Ora had caught a full stringer of fish with a cane pole from the water's edge near our camp site. Hush puppies and peach cobbler with homemade ice-cream completed the great feast. Nights stretched out seemingly forever as we kids would run like dervishes trying to fill our mason jars with fire-flies. Collapsing on the front porch swing and eventually drifting into the house and falling fast asleep completed the typical day's adventures. "Angel of Mercy" and "Jerusalem" are crafted in the CCM genre. "American Dream", "All American Boy" and "You Won't Have Me" are hard rocking country numbers. "Pins and Needles" is my first foray into an instrumental piece with a bit of a smooth jazz polish. Special bonus track, "I Spent The Summer South of the Border" is a collaboration with the Endorphins. I love the guitar solo in the bridge and hope you do too. Fans of Sammy Kershaw and Jimmy Buffet will be right at home... or maybe "away from home" on this one!
