Hat Trick - Into The Desert

Gary Burden had this fantastical idea of photographing us at the top of a ridge just at dark, holding a mirror between the three of us to catch the image of the rising moon. Much to the chagrin of one of the pack horses. Gary had strapped a huge bar mirror to its back and hauled the thing the whole way to the oasis.

We sat around the campfire that night and did all the same things campers do: including but not limited to time-lapse photography. Gary would shine lights in our faces as Henry Diltz took pictures, varying the amount of exposure and allowing for multiple exposures. It's hard to shake the feeling that Gary was trying to cast a spell or weave some kind of magic out there in the desert.
